On December 22, 2011 Chadron State College announced it would not renew the employment contract of Bill O’Boyle. The coach has spent six plus seasons as the program’s head coach and 20 total seasons on the CSC sideline.
In October the CSC administration self-reported potential violations to the NCAA. O’Boyle was relieved of his coaching duties at that time to focus on the investigation.
In November a financial report was made public from BKD and stated that O’Boyle created private bank accounts intended for football donations. The report also said there was $22,000 in payments to “cash” without supporting documentation. The report concluded it was not possible to determine if the funds were used for their purported purpose or to benefit the football program staff personally.
The results from the NCAA investigation have not been made public.
