Trevor Mbakwe and the University of Minnesota has announced the star forward will return for another season.
Mbakwe was granted a sixth season of eligibility by the NCAA and there was question whether or not he would return. Earlier this month he tweeted about “Unfinished Business” but said that was not an official return announcement.
Today the university posted a video on its website and confirmed that Mbakwe would return for the 2012-2013 season. Mbakwe tore his ACL last season, seven games into his senior year, and underwent season ending surgery.
Prior to the injury Mbakwe led the Gophers in rebounds the first seven games and in scoring three times. He was also leading the Big Ten Conference in rebounding at the time of injury.
Minnesota showed a lot of promise at the end of the season as they rallied to make it to the NIT Championship game. Mbakwe’s return bolsters a talented and experienced lineup that could be a conference contender next season.
